FAQ

Pilates is a training method focused on building a strong and stable core through controlled and precise movements. The primary benefits include significantly improved posture, increased flexibility, stronger and more toned muscles (especially around the abdomen, back, and pelvis), and enhanced body awareness. Pilates is also known for helping relieve back pain and prevent injuries.

Pilates is for everyone — regardless of gender! The training method was originally developed by a man, Joseph Pilates, to rehabilitate soldiers. Today, many male top athletes use Pilates to improve performance and prevent injuries. Men will especially experience benefits such as increased flexibility, a stronger core, and better balance — making it a perfect complement to traditional strength training.

Although both training forms improve flexibility and body awareness, there is a key difference. Yoga has spiritual roots and focuses on uniting body and mind through poses (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama). Pilates is more physically oriented, primarily focusing on building core strength through dynamic and controlled movements. Pilates exercises are often more dynamic and involve fewer repetitions compared to yoga.

Yes, absolutely. Our Pilates classes are designed for all levels, including complete beginners. Our skilled instructors are trained to guide you and offer modifications to the exercises so they match your level. The focus is on proper technique, ensuring you build strength safely and effectively from day one.

Wear comfortable, form-fitting workout clothes so the instructor can see your movements and correct your technique. We usually train barefoot or in socks to give you better contact with the floor. Bring a water bottle and a towel. We provide mats and all other necessary equipment in our studios.

Joseph Pilates himself said: “After 10 sessions you feel the difference, after 20 sessions you see the difference, and after 30 sessions you have a whole new body.”
Most people experience noticeable improvements in posture, reduced tension, and increased energy after just a few weeks of regular training (1–2 times per week).

Pilates is often recommended by physiotherapists for rehabilitation and prevention of back issues because it strengthens the deep, stabilising muscles around the spine. However, it’s important that you inform your instructor about your specific issues before the class starts, so they can guide you and adjust the exercises accordingly. For serious back problems, you should always consult your doctor first.

Our classes are based on classical Matwork Pilates, where all exercises are performed on a mat. We focus on the fundamental Pilates principles: centering, control, flow, breathing, precision, and concentration. Our instructors often incorporate small props such as balls, resistance bands, and rings to add extra challenge and variation to the training.

We offer Pilates in several of our centres that have dedicated group training studios. You can typically find Pilates on the schedule at SHC Borups Allé, SHC Gothersgade, and SHC Østbanegade.
Since our class schedule is updated regularly, we recommend checking the current timetable on our website or in the app for the latest times and locations.
